The aim of the course is offer an overview of research on linguistic/semiotic landscapes, focusing in particular on the insights that can be gained from a spatial perspective on languages and other meaning-making practices. The course will also present different methodologies that can be employed in analysing languages in public spaces. Ultimately the course will offer an expanded view of what we mean by language and multilingualism so as to encompass other forms of meaning-making, including the body as well as material and affective practices.
